Processing and Briquetting

Swarf Management and Briquetting Machines

Tom Martin & Company can offer a full swarf management system should your manufacturing facility produce large volumes of non-ferrous swarf. In close collaboration with many of our customers, we have already overseen the investment and installation of numerous briquetting machines on our customers' sites. The system allows you to achieve the following benefits:

  • Increased scrap revenue:
In puck form, the value of your scrap is increased.
  • Increased transparency:
No more deductions for moisture or oil content - you are paid for the weight of pucks recorded at your premises.
  • Improved handling:
Once briquetted, pucks are easily stored and transported in collapsible stillages, forklift containers or skips.
  • Significant savings:
The coolant which is pressed out of the swarf can be recycled and pumped back into your coolant management system, thus reducing your spend on coolant.
  • Improved Health, Safety and Environmental conditions:
A briquetting system removes the problems associated with the handling of loose wet swarf, such as spillages and disposal of waste coolant.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint:
By pressing the swarf, you can reduce the volume of the material by as much as 8:1 - this obviously means fewer collections are required, not to mention the benefits of recycling the coolant.

Furthermore, all of the above benefits can be achieved without the need for any capital expenditure on your part. Tom Martin & Company can offer a briquetting press as well as a coolant filtration / recycling unit as part of a waste management package. For a no obligation site survey, please contact us.

RUF Briquetter

Tom Martin & Company has purchased and installed RUF briquetters in factories of varying sizes in both the UK and abroad.

You can choose from an extensive range of briquetting machines and formats to best suit your operational requirements, with throughputs ranging from 20 kgs right up to 4800 kgs per hour.

Valuable cutting fluid is extracted and reclaimed from moist metal shavings and sludges, ready for reuse after a treatment process. Therefore the consumption of expensive cutting fluid is reduced whilst at the same time the costly disposal of wet chips and sludges is kept to a minimum.

Briquetting metals, you can choose between sizes from 60x40mm to 150x120mm. The length of the briquette may vary within the given parameters and the choice of the briquette format depends on the required throughput, as well as the quality of the source material and its bulk density.
